Location: LAT. 10 DEG. 58 MIN. N LONG. 74 DEG. 46 MIN. W.
Current Draft: 29 FEET F.W. In the river mouth and the navigational channel (it can change suddenly due to constant river water flow changes)
Windy Season: From early December to mid April; prevailing northeasterly winds.

SOCIEDAD PORTUARIA DEL NORTE

Geographically, is the first multipurpose private port at Barranquilla. With a total of 56.800 m2 in yards, 2 warehouses of 1.000 and 2.650m2, can receive all type of cargo. This pier has 1 floating pier with a T shape with 114 meter, with a maximum draft of 40’ alongside, however the restriction is at the river mouth. The pier can attend vessels with a max loa of 200 meters and 35.000 mtons of dwt, working with 3,4 or 5 services.

“ LAS FLORES “ ANCHORAGE AREA.

This area is usually used for anchoring the vessels awaiting berths either private piers as Monomeros / Cementos Argos / Colterminales or the public pier.

Also it is used for discharge operations of steel cargo, which are carried out to barges –with a capacity between 200-250 tons-, alongside vessel both starboard and port side. The cargo is discharged with ship’s cranes.

The main restriction is the arrival draft on the river mouth, as there are no loa/beam/air draft restrictions determined. Vessels are not moored but anchored at midstream. The current discharge rate estimated at this area is about 4,000 mt/day agw/ wp.

SOCIEDAD PORTUARIA REGIONAL DE BARRANQUILLA

Port terminal located about 11 miles from Magdalena river mouth
Number of piers: this pier has about 1,058 meters long, where it can be accommodated between 6-7 vessels, depending on their loa.
Max loa: this restriction has not been determined but it has been docked vessels with loa up to 216 meters. All depends on draft restriction.
Max beam: 35 meters width. This restriction is mainly applied for coal/coke shipments, which requires a shore crane.
Max draft: this restriction is the same as the river mouth and navigational channel
Max. Airdraft: 14 mtrs height from the quay level to the freeboard. The distance between the quay and waterline is about 1.5 meters, which changes depending on the season when high levels of water flows are presented and reduce this distance to about 0.5 meters. High levels usually are presented between June-August and December- January. This restriction is mainly applied for coal/coke shipments, which requires a shore crane.
Normal working hours: 24 hours SHINC.

The SPRB facility has five shore cranes with 100 tons of capacity and is bringing in four shore grabs with 10 cbm capacity to operate bulk carriers.

MONOMEROS

General Information

Max Loa : This restriction has not been determined by the port but it has docked vessels up to 180 meters long a t pier 1 and 150 meters long at pier 2.
Max Beam: Not determined and depends on draft restriction Vessels alongside by starboard side
Normal Working Hours: 24 hrs SHINC.
Discharge Rate for Dry Bulk Cargo: About 3500 mt/day agw/wp. It varies depending on factors as kind of cargo, holds distribution, vessel’s cranes, among others.
Draft Restriction: 29’ FW, with separating barges, but due to silting problems vessel should be fixed at 28? FW.
Liquid Bulk Cargo
It is the same pier 1 for dry bulk cargoes, where is also installed the manifold for pumping this type of cargo.
Hose Connections: 1 X 6’’
Pump Discharge Rate for Liquid Cargo: About 170 mtons7 hour agw/ wp.
Draft Restriction: 22’ FW alongside.


SOCIEDAD PORTUARIA ATLANTIC COAL DE COLOMBIA S.A

Information:
SociedadPortuariaAtlantic Coal de Colombia S.A., was incorporated in 1989. The Company is dedicated mainly to port activities, specialized in the handling of coal for export.  SociedadPortuariaAtlantic Coal de Colombia S.A. is the owner of a port facility, built on its own property, and located on the westernmargin of the River Magdalena, adjacent to the facilities of the SociedadPortuariaRegional de Barranquilla, the public port of the city of Barranquilla.  Atlantic Coal also owns 50 % of NORCARBON S.A., a Company that holds title to a coal mine, located in CerroLargo, La Jagua de Ibirico, Department of Cesar, in the northeastern region of Colombia, 350 kilometers south east of the port in Barranquilla. 
On July of 2007, ATCOAL S.A., ComercializadoraInternacionalwas incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlantic Coal as a Trading Company to promote and sell in the international markets coal produced by NORCARBON, as well as, coal mined by independent producers.

II.PORT TARIFFS
           A.BASIC TARIFF –Steam Coal and Coking Coal: US$ 6.00 /ton.
           B. BASIC TARIFF –Met. and furnace Coke:US$ 7.00 /ton. 
        These tariffs include::
        1.TRACTO-TRUCK or BARGE Receipt .
        2.Unloading.
        3.Separate piling by customer assigned location.
        4.Vessel arrival coordination and mooring at pier
        5.Vessel loading according to stowage plan
        6.Loading operation.
        7.Documentation coordination with authorities and buyer’s Agent

 

II.ASSETS A.The Port Facility 

AAtlantic Coalbuilt with its own resources, the pier and the infrastructure of the port in Barranquilla, with investments of over TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS (USD $20'000,000.oo). The port installations consist of;

a- A yard for the handling of the coal with an approximate extension of  9.000 M2., of land property. 

bThe pier built by The

Compny,  has the following characteristics:
Three docks for the of ship’s mooring, two platforms, constructed on piles of 0.80 mts. in diameter each, anchored 14 meters down in the coralline at the bottom of the Magdalena River bed. This construction meets international specifications to berth vessels of up to 60.000 metric tons capacity. The present conditions of the navigation channel (32ft. draft), allow to load "Handy Size" type vessels. Based on the works being completed onthe River Channel, it is expected that by 2008, the draft will be upgraded to 36ft., which will allow the traffic of Panamaxvessels to the port in Barranquilla. 
C- An irrigation system to moist the coal piles by aspersion, a mandatory requirement of the Colombian Ministry of Environmental Protection.
d- Two electrical power plants of 150 KVA, each, to give self-sufficiency to the Port in case of electricity shortages that can affect the 24 hour per day SHINC,port operation.        The Port has been accredited internationally as a "Safe Port". This port  serves also independent coal producers of the regions of Cesar, Cundinamarca  and Boyacá, with the resulting increase in the use of the port capacity. The Port facility can handle 1.200.000 metrictons. of coal for export per year.

MARSEC LEVEL : 1 
2-  For your information, the berth at this terminal is a floating berth made by 2 barges: one of 56 mtrs Loa and 18 mtrs beam, and other one of 62mtrs Loa and 13,6 mtrs beam for a total of 118 mtrs of floating berth.
Also, the total area of this pier is 4.5 hectares and the area that they have reserved for storing and receiving the coal is 21.200 m2, just in front of the berth.
3-  This terminal has a shore crane of 80 mtons capacity and they also have a hydraulic grab of 21 m3 and 2 more grabs of 12 m3 and 17 m3 each. However understand that for this coal project, the vls must be fitted with grabs.
